Our new blog is for two main purposes: flash & blog article posts by our editor-in-chief and you!
Purpose #1: Freaky Flash Fridays
Toil & Trouble Literary Magazine publishes two issues annually—one in February and one in October. Creating a magazine is rather time consuming, and so this is all our editor-in-chief can keep up with. However, we don't want radio silence between our two annual issues, and so we figured a blog showcasing flash fiction pieces was a happy medium. What do you think?
Why flash fiction?
We don't get many flash fiction pieces submitted to us but we do enjoy and love to see them. Plus, they're quick, easy, and impactful. Just what you need at the end of your week!
What have we decided to call it? Freaky Flash Friday!
We're not strict here, so flash encapsulates fiction and non-fiction as well as prose poetry. Feel free to get creative with it.
How many flash pieces will you be posting?
We'll choose two pieces for each week (totalling 26).
When and where can I submit a piece for consideration?
From May 01 - May 07 each year, we will open submissions for our blog. After selecting twelve of those submissions, we will post one per week every Friday until August 01—which is when we open submissions for our October issue.
You can submit your piece to toilandtroublelitmag@gmail.com. Guidelines can be found under 'Blog > Guidelines' on our website.
Apart from that, experiment and be weird with it. This blog is the place to try new things.
Purpose #2: Blog Posts
So that our blog also contains traditional blog article posts, our editor-in-chief will write one every fortnight between May 01 and August 01. These blog articles will be about anything related to writing, reading, and/or witchcraft. It's also an excuse for her to write and write and keep writing.
If you're looking for an excuse or cause to write too, you can contribute to the blog as well!
We want to hear from aspiring article writers. If you would like to contribute an article to our blog, we would love that! We want to make the blog a community space where everybody can raise their voice and test the waters. Unfortunately, we won't be able to compensate you for your work but we can guarantee that your piece will be posted to the blog (so long as it adheres to the guidelines).
You can submit your piece to toilandtroublelitmag@gmail.com. Guidelines can be found under 'Blog > Guidelines' on our website.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts and any suggestions you'd like to make.
